Okay if you managed to watch the last Elite XC show on NBC you know that "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler and Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith were having one hell of a free for all. going into the third round Lawler accidently poked Smith into the eye. when the doctor went to inspect smith he said that he couldnt see but give him a second the doctor then made the decision that smith was unable to continue. Both Lawler and Smith were disapointed. None more than the fans who tuned in to watch or actually bought tickets for more than to watch Kimbo Slice beat up another overhyped heavyweight. Gary Shaw ended up paying them both winners purses and promised a rematch.july 26 is the rematch and while elite xc isnt my favorite mma promotion i am looking forward to the rest of that fight.
Now i dont want to say i hate Elite XC it just seems that they are picking up leftovers. I will say they put on a decent show however it doesnt seem like the most calibrated fighters are getting a push. For example one of the champions is 6 win Cung le. what? 6? not 16? and a champion? They have 2 middleweight champions for whatever reason. perhaps because most of their other divisions are mediocre at best.
I think that the best fighter they have is Nick Diaz. who recently lost to KJ noons in a lightweight championship because it was called on cuts. I think it was bullshit but i'm not a doctor. Take a peek at their site sometime they dont even show the next fightcard so you dont know what you're getting excited about except the main event. Gary Shaw is not the best promoter in the world either however the man knows the best ways to spin some hype.
Finally I'm to my biggest beef. Kimbo Slice. My god i cant stand all the talk about this guy. now i am not bashing him as a person but every time i hear someone say that kimbo is the best heavyweight in the world i wanna smack them. Does anyone actually think that Kimbo Slice could go toe to toe with a guy like Fedor? how bout Silvia? Coture? Gonzaga? Arlovski? Vera? Werdum? I doubt it he was losing a fight to James Thomson for cryin out loud. Little ground game but heavy hands. i'm sorry every time i hear that Kimbo slice is underated i wanna smack somebody. can anyone tell me why anyone gives a damn about kimbo slice?
Elite XC puts on a decent show but thats just what it is a show its not a decent card in any way shape or form. although it has the occosional good fight. If you want to be entertained and watch two good fights out of eight check out Elite XC's show on the 26th.
