I know I should have said before, but my only pick was Goulet over Hironaka, I always pick against Japanese fighters in the UFC, and I always seem to be right.

Not always. Carol Uno? There are a few who have flopped. It's also why Takanori Gomi won't come to UFC. Tatsuya Kawajiri, where is he fighting now? What about Shinya Aoki? Thats just in Lightweights. I'm not even much impressed with Lyoto Machida, I know he's decent but he won't be Champion in UFC. Maybe some of these guys are Chinese, same difference though.

Also it's Caol Uno, but that's not what I was wanting to get at anyway. Gomi has expressed his interest in coming to the UFC. The only problem with him, being a LW over in Japan, coming over to the UFC is he won't be matchup against people you'd think he would be matched up against. As a matter of fact I doubt Gomi would make 155 Lbs. too easily. He's a big guy and would be fighting at WW if he came to the UFC. He'd be facing the likes of Matt Hughes, St. Pierre, Jon Fitch, Koscheck. Which I think Gomi could handle Fitch, Koscheck, Sanchez, but Hughes and St. Pierre (Defintely St. Pierre) would be a tough matchup for him and I don't see him winning those fights, unless Gomi could catch them. He's probably the hardest hitting Japanese fighter P4P. Gomi is in World Victory Road as is Josh Barnett. Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri are both in DREAM. As is Gesias Calvancanti and Mitsuhiro Ishida. After Melendez is finished with Strikeforce he will probably move on to DREAM or UFC. If he doesn't he'd be dumb. The best competition at that weight is DREAM and UFC. BJ Penn would maul most of the guys in the DREAM LW GP though. Calvancanti might be able to give him fits on the feet. But on the ground BJ is in a class of his own.

"It's also why Takanori Gomi won't come to UFC. "
Or the fact that he will be getting paid triple in japan.
But I do think Gomi is overrated. BJ would just destroy him again. Sakurai didnt do too bad in ufc and id love to see him come back and fight GSP. I think that would be an amazing fight
and lets not forget about ultimate japan and a little guy named sakuraba
okami is pretty fucking good too.
TK wasnt bad in his day and his fight against rutten was out of control good

But on the ground BJ is in a class of his own. Excellent point there about Melendez, yea he needs to fight top competition, something he hasnt been doing in strikeforce, a tougher fight for him would've been the Josh Thomson fight, but that never happened, after getting lay n prayed by Ishida, he returned to "defend" his title against an extremely overmatched Gabe Lemley who Melendez smashed. Melendez needs to come to the UFC and fight really top LW's and see how he fairs. I would like to see him fight Clay Guida again, it would be a rematch, but Guida has improved so much that he can give Melendez fits. Also, Gesias would give BJ some crazy fits on the feet. I think Gesias has the best chance to win the whole tournament, that is, if he beats Aoki in the rematch. I think he will. The only thing I worry about him is that people like Ishida. When Ishida fought Melendez, he showed that hes looking for only one thing and that is the takedown, thats it, thats all he does it take you down over and over and over again, thats it, nothing else. Gesias would have to be careful not to get lay n prayed. Kawajiri poses a threat too, but that would be an awesome fight if Gesias and Tatsuya were to fight, but Alvarez is one tough little son of a bitch, he is a dark horse in the tournament in my opinion. He has a chance to beat Hellboy Hansen. Its going to be good.

Gomi would lose to Fitch, Koscheck, Sanchez, Hughes and St. Pierre, no doubt. Fitch and Koscheck would maul him with outwrestling him, especially Koscheck, once Koscheck gets a hold of your leg, your going for a ride. Fitch would grind him out with superior size and positioning, Sanchez would beat the hell out of him with superior cardio and just the will to win, Hughes would grind him out with wrestling slams and ground and pound and St. Pierre would kill him on the feet and maul him on the ground. Gomi hasn't faced top competition in a while, his last top fight was against Sakurai. He beat Sakurai, convincingly, but he would get whooped in the UFC.
