The School of Hard Knox

Comments: Well I've been asked again to go through The School of Hard Knox and take a look over it as it's gotten some more members, a new design and is ready to rock and roll for 2008. First I'll show you the original score and then I'll add in the new comments and everything.
Now if you don't know what an MMA fed is, allow me to explain it to you as explained by Conrad Howell owner of The School of Hard Knox.
An MMA fed uses a fight simulator that takes into consideration your fighters stats that you accumulate and add to with wins, team points if you are a part of a team and other various bonus points that can be awarded for certain things. These other items include the best trash talk(roleplay) and what not each week. By doing this things your fighter will be able to gain extra attribute points to add to your stats.
Each week you send in your training with the attribute that you want to train and then your weekly strategies to go against your opponent. The strategies range from how much you want you guy to punch, kick, submit, and things of that nature.
A MMA style fed is no where near as time consuming as an E-fed and can offer the same enjoyment. You can do the same style rp as you would for an E-fed if you'd like, or just simple talk shit towards your opponent and tell them what's up. You can join a team(stable) and use team points and get the feel for the game from guys who have more experience than you.
Sound interesting? Check this place out.
Introduction:
The School of Hard Knox is a mixed martial arts fed that has been opened for a few months now. It is ran by Alexander Fairchild and he seems to have a pretty good understanding of how to run a MMA fed. It's got a lot of members and doesn't take up a lot of time from what I've gathered. You train your stats based upon points gained from victories and such to increase your attributes. The league uses a MMA sim which the owner enters the stats into and then goes from there and it decides the outcome of your match. Each week you also send in your strategies and style you wish for your fighter to use in his fight. It seems like a pretty interesting thing and if you like MMA I'd suggest giving it a try.
Site and Design:
It's a pretty basic layout and not the best layout I've ever seen, but it does do the job. I didn't come across any dead links though there was one blank page for the title histories. This is something the owner should be looking into and getting up as I noticed titles have changed hands.
Overall the site and boards both look pretty good and get the job done. Everything is easy to find and access and navigate through which is always a big plus when joining a fed. I think there could be a few changes done to make the main page look better such as changing the font or things in that nature, but for the most part I feel everything is fine.
Site and Design Rating:7/10
Results:
The results here are done through a sim and then the owner goes through and adds in some conversation. There are times when it can get pretty boring reading through the sim, and I think one thing the owner could do to spice up the results is add a bit more convo throughout to help spice things up some. I think that this could make it more interesting. Right now the job is getting done and it's nothing bad by any means. The sim is actually interesting and keeps track of your stats throughout your match which is a cool feature as well. I think with a little extra spice added to the results they'd be even better.
Results Rating: 8/10
Board Activity:
Since this isn't based upon roleplaying I'll change this last area up a little bit. There is a place for you to do your trash talk though winning isn't based upon that and don't expect to find anything much over 3-5 lines of written trash talk. It's just a simple way to add a little more excitement to the MMA style e-fed. The boards seem to be pretty active though and offer a lot of things from team boards to other boards for everyone's entertainment. They seem to be doing a good job and stay pretty active at all times, especially in the trash talking boards.
Board Activity Rating:9/10
Summary:
SoHK seems to be an up and coming Mixed Martial Arts fed with a dedicated man at the helm. He's getting the job done and runs a pretty solid weekly show. I give him many props for the job he's done and look forward to seeing him expand his MMA fed even more and wish him the best of luck. If you are interested in joining an MMA fed I highly suggest this one. Why?
Weekly shows, on time results, and a different experience.
Overall Rating:8/10
New Comments on The School of Hard Knox
Introduction: It's 2008 now and The School of Hard Knox is still going strong as it's been adding new members left and right to increase it's roster size to a fully active roster of around forty members. It looks to be going strong as an MMA fed and I noticed on the board some members who say they've been in a lot of MMA feds calling this one a sure fire winner. I'm not all that familar with MMA feds, but these guys seem to enjoy this place ran by Conrad Howell.
Site and Design:
Well there's a new site up and going and the boards have been redone to give it a more exciting look for this new year and I must say it's a big step up from the old one. It's nothing that's one-hundred percent great, but it gets the job done, looks good, looks clean, and has a nice touch to it. There are a few new sections that have been added that need to be finished otherwise everything is going good.
New Site and Design Score: 9/10
Results:
The first time I graded the results I was probably to easy on them considering it was done through a sim, and realize that there are more things that could be added to these results to spice them up a little bit. Some more added convo, and maybe even throwing in some conversation between what the sim does could add some more enjoyment to the results. Still solid nonetheless for an MMA fed.
Results Score: 7/10
Board Activity:
The board is going strong with a few minor setbacks during the holidays as some people weren't around, but it looks to have picked up the pace where it left off and continues to stay active especially in the pre and post event trash talk sections(roleplay boards). The ooc and other categories could be a little more lively, but the main thing that matters is guys are sending in their strats, talking smack, and working with their teams to keep adding to this already solid MMA Fed. I stand where I stood before in grading this.
