(Not sure where to put this so here we go)
GFS v. Manslaughter FC...wow......thats a card.
until this last week it looked like the most staked matchup of gold in a long time. but i think almost everyone on both teams looked ahead to thier new opponents this week who they are obviously more fired up about. not saying its a horrible thing just what makes us human. I prolly would have made the same mistake. moving on i think each division has a title contender or former champion in the wings right now. lets start bottom to top.
Lightweight Matchup
Hannibal King vs. Hayato Yoshida (any spelling errors im sorry)
okay Yoshida is the real deal no matter which way ya spin it. in his most recent bout he made Cedric Clerc, who i consider one of the better lightweight conteders, look stupid. no offense to Cedric who is an all around fighter but Yoshida opened up with heavy shots and didnt let up. an impressive 15-9 record to his credit Yoshida loves to go toe to toe and break faces. His last loss was in fact to King at TNG 42 where Yoshida actually rocked the champion with the first few shots. King retaliated and toook the belt back home at 1 minute and twenty eight seconds of round one.
On to the champ.....whats to say that hasnt been said. King is a living breathing wrecking machine with the scariest ground and pound in any division. 17-5 are you kidding me? this guy has been on an absolute tear! TNG 27 KO of Yoshida, TNG 29 TKO over Fisto, TNG 32 Ko over Mendoza, TNG 33 Captures title from Yoshida. Thats just the start. King beats Stoney wall twice in a row both times impressive. I consider Stoney among one of the best fighters in SOHK history! both fights combine to a total 1 minute and 3 seconds are you kidding me? Then he destroys Jin and Cedric two top lightweights. and finally blasts Frank Castiglione in under 30 seconds just like he said. King is the Ruth of MMA right now.
The fight itself: David Vs. Goliath 2: King is a moster but if i had to pick just one guy who could beat him in the lightweight division it is Yoshida. this guy has shown a few microscopic chinks in King's armour. but its enough for a former champ like Yoshida to bust through and KO the champ. on the other hand King doesnt hide his strategy, its really simple he takes you down and breaks your face. and its over before it began. I like Yoshida but I'll take Goliath this time around.
King by KO round 1
Welterweight matchup
Tadashi Ishikawa vs. Miles Allen
Lets start with Allen. Miles is a great striker hands down no doubt about it. his biggest weakness that has been questioned is his submission defense. Losing his last title fight to Aiden Christiansin by a choke and there was the mishap of the loss to Colm Murphy by submission. TNG 33 was the last time Allen saw the top of the mountain and it looked pretty good im guessin. the last time these two met Allen was the better man KOing Tadashi and retaining his title. He has beaten all of his opponents at least once with exception of Legendary Don Cherry as mentioned by Allen himself. He's not my favorite person but i have to admire his skill and his determination. when he loses a fight he makes it personal to win it back. especially if he believes he is the better fighter.
Tadashi is a whole bag of tricks and then some. despite Tadashi winning the belt from Aiden Christiansin at TNG 39, it was short lived because at TNG 42 he lost it. Tadashi has great ground game and perhaps it could be Allen's kryptonite. plus his standup looks great in each bout. not at Allen's level but definatly noteworthy. but at the same time i have only seen Tadashi Ko'd in his recent bouts. despite losing his title he has won his last 3 out of 4 bouts and looks great every time.
The Fight itself. Stand or shoot: This fight is going to be about the takedown. Plain and simple. I like Tadashi and his standup but if he is feeling froggy and wants to stand with Allen it has bad news written ALL OVER it. now Tadashi can take a shot no doubt but Allen reigns the blows and makes you pay. If it goes to the ground i think Tadashi can submit the impressive allen but he still has to be weary of Allen's scary ground and pound. I have no doubt that Allen will make this another notch in his belt however.
Allen by TKO round 2
Middleweight Matchup:
Brent Aston vs. Rob Loney
Okay i actually know both of these guys and thier styles VERY well. Loney hits harder than a freight train make no mistake. and Aston as he has already mentioned has been at the top of the world.
Lets start with the Violent Saint.
Loney as i already said hits hard and without remorse. Last time i saw loney it was at MNB 20 where he actually was choked out by the former champ. But Loney doesnt have bad ground game at all with his last win that same night submitting Jayceon Taylor. getting some well deserved revenge over MNB 18 bout where Taylor submitted him. Loney also has beaten some tough guys but falls short of the elite. this could very well be his comming out party with a victory over the former champ. at 4 wins and 4 loses this next W should give him a shot at Josh Allen. Loney is another one of those determined types. He likes to bullrush fighters and knock them out as quick and as violent as possible. If Aston decides to stand he's in for some trouble
Aston on the other hand has been there. he has done that. before the Middleweight Tourname Aston was already considered one of the top guys to take the title from the immortal Jack Napier. His ground game is next to none. not to mention his standup is nothing to scoff at. He lost his last fight to one of the best fighters out there. I dont care what ya say about Josh Allen that guy is the real deal.
The Fight Itself: Expierience vs. Youth:
I've seen these two lock horns before. They last met at MNB 20 where Loney showed he was no joke. threatening Aston from all angles of the fight. despite getting taken down early and having to fight Aston at his best position he showed that he was indeed a warrior fighting to the best of his ablility almost submitting the former champ with a shin lock. If his ground and pound has improved then Loney could have a major upset. Otherwise it will be much of the same with Aston continusly showing a Gracie style of Jiu-Jitsu by constantly switching from submission to submssion until Loney cant scramble anymore. I'll take experience
Aston Sub Round 3
Lightheavyweight matchup:
Jack Napier vs. Ryan Ammons
okay i'll try to keep this one short cuz i could talk about it all day long. lets start with Titanic.
Jack Napier the unbeatable fighter. 17 and 3 altogether. he showed extreme dominance in the middleweight division losing only twice against title matches. He then continued on a tear taking the title and running like hell. with a combination of scary striking and amazing ground game. and then a change. He moved up to Lightheavyweight and lately, hasnt been as dominant. dont get me wrong i dont wanna trade blows with the guy anytime soon but the immortal mistique has seemed to fade as of late. pulling submssions any way he can but continuing his aggresive style.
Moving on to Ammons, with the exception of a recent loss to Grogen this guy has looked awesome lately now 13 and 7 isnt the greatest record in the world but look at who he has fought. Grogen, Grayson and Napier. and those are just the last 3. all champs former or current. we are looking at the guy who sunk the titanic as well in beating the unbeatable Napier and he did like it was no big deal. I think Jimmy bragged about it more than Ammons. He also holds a win over the current champ in thier last meeting Cameron Grayson fought Ammons at TNG 38 and lost by submission. okay enough
The Fight Itself: The Rematch:
In all honesty Napier had Ammons on his heels in thier last meeting but Ryan weathered the storm to pull out a ground and pound stoppage. I would love to see these guys go three full rounds and push each other to the limit however they are too destructive for thier own good. this fight will be lucky if it makes it out of round one. I like them both. Both great standup and great ground game. I think i'm gonna say the titanic will sink again though. I know it's a crazy pick but i feel bold Ryan Ammons is the real deal.
Ryan Ammons by TKO round 1
Heavyweight Matchup:
Jason Kash vs. Gesias Calvancanti
okay this is gonna be the hardest to break down. these two have already met a few times before. the most recent was TNG 41 where JZ took the W and walked away. lets start with KAsh.
Jason Kash is Mr. inconsistant. dont get me wrong i like the guy alot but i wish he would have back to back good performances just once. I say this because i have seen flashes of brilliance from Kash. Solid standup, great ground game with some solid ground and pound mixed with submissions he is the whole package. I've watched him KO tough guys in the first round only get beaten up the next time he finds himself on the card. I cant understand it! With Kash it's a damn coin toss whether you get a champ or a chump. I dont say this cuz i think hes a bad fighter either. Its the opposite, I think he should be a great fighter but he hasnt had solid performances in a row as of late. I'm worried when he finally does win a title he wont be able to defend it.
moving on to Gesias Calvancanti. This guy is a moster, no matter how you look at it he is a freak of nature. With the exception of his last fight he has looked spectacular. I think he kind of looked past Melvin in anticipation for this bout. I dont doubt that he will get the belt back as soon as he feels hes ready again. In his title challenge he made Richter look bad, and that my friends is not easy with a complete fighter like Shawn. I have never seen him dominated like that EVER. JZ has the whole package. he has the best standup i have seen in a long damn time. plus his ground game is nothin to sneeze at. lets move on to the good stuff.
The Fight Itself: Coin Toss:
This goes back to what i was saying earlier. Kash is a great fighter on a given night. just pray its the right night. If Kash is in top form for this fight expect a war and a big upset. if not watch JZ run through Kash like toliet paper. I'm hopin for the former.
JZ Decision
Legendary Fight
Norbert Sykes vs. Jimmy Thomson.
uhhh..................................................................................ya...........
I got nothin. Both are legends expect a great fight I'm not even predicting this bout i'm just going to enjoy. I mean jeeze I wasnt even apart of this league when these two fought last. IT should be good!
okay wrapup. I have Manslaughter 3-2 over GFS but hey I made some crazy picks too so dont be surprized if i'm completely wrong. This is just how i've been feelin about it and i hade ta write it down. Now i shall wait for tuesday and watch the bout with my teamates and enjoy the show.
