reccently been confirmed by the UFC is UFC 90's main event between the number one fighter in the world Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote. Am i the only one who is screaming this is a horrible match up?? Patrick Cote while very well rounded and an explosive fighter has little chance against the spider. he knocks people out at will and can submit you before you can blink and they think that Patrick Cote deserves a shot before Okami(rumored to have a broken hand), Thales Leites, or hell a rematch between Nathan Marquart. I will say it right now Cote has NO CHANCE. I usually dont say this because in MMA there are so many ways to defeat an opponent but Silva is a one man wrecking machine. and I dont think cote has a chance of comming close to koing him or hell submiting the spider. Does anyone know why there are making this matchup? Yes Cote won his last five fights, but the opponents were Jason Day, Kendall Grove, Scott Smith, Drew McFedres, and Ricardo Almedia. are any of these guys even in the top ten? Smith and Day are good strikers but ground game is nothing to glorify, McFedres has no ground game but did get knocked out by the Canadian. Kendal Grove is a well rounded fighter but i feel got caught off guard by the explosivness that Cote has. And Almedia was too damn close to call in that fight. plus i dont consider Almedia anywhere near the level of the spider. Im calling a one round KO maybe within the first two minutes it wouldnt surprise me.

I actually think Cote has somewhat a better chance than some of Silva's previous opponents. Cote is remarkably tough, has a very very solid chin, took some big shots from Drew McFedries who in my honest opinion has more power than Anderson Silva. Those shots including a huge left hand he took from McFedries would've put a lot of people down, but Cote didnt even really flinch at it. He has solid striking skills, he's not as careless and open as James Irvin is. I thought Irvin had a good chance because he does have punching power, but he's a little on the reckless side and has kind of a wide open defense. Cote is much more of a boxer type. Anderson will have the better kickboxing, but I think Cote has the better boxing. Cote also has one punch KO power, especially in his right hand. I wouldn't be surprised to see him catch Anderson with it and surprise Anderson. Anderson himself has a great chin as well, he took some big shots from Dan Henderson and didnt seem to be too hurt from it. I think they will come out and make a great fight, I think Cote is going to be extremely hungry and really wants to win the fight. I think he'll come out looking to pressure Anderson. I think Cote will not be as afraid to let the hands go in this fight as he was in the Almeida fight. That was mainly because Ricardo Almeida is so good on the ground that Cote didnt want to throw as many punches because that would leave yourself vunerable to be taken down. Watch for the first round to be surprisingly competitive, but look for Anderson with superior kickboxing switch up gameplans and use a lot more kicks than we've seen from him in the past. Look for Cote to try and land that big right hand in every exchange. I think Anderson will win the fight by TKO in Round 2 actually. I feel that Cote makes it out of a surprisingly competitve first round. But ends up suffering in the 2nd round because of Anderson's kicks and his clinch. But I think Cote will put on a great performance, probably the best performance we've seen out of his UFC career thus far. Even though he most likely will probably lose the fight, he will put up a great fight. Then after that, maybe Anderson moves back up to 205 for a big fight or sets his sights on Okami next, who knows?

I can see where you are comming from but i just dont feel that Cote has the punching power to scare silva. dont get me wrong i like Cote i just think hes a tad overrated at the moment. Its not Silva's power that makes him so dangerous its his accuracy and his ability to rain on the pressure. the only fight i thought Cote showed championship levels was against Ortiz in his first UFC bout. so it wouldnt surprise me if he did rise to the occasion but i just dont see it happenin.

I think he will rise to the occasion, but ultimately suffer defeat. But expect to see Patrick Cote put on a great showing. A hungry determined underdog is a very dangerous fighter. My biggest shock and I usually pick fights right, I picked Griffin over Rampage, Alves over Hughes, Gonzaga over Cro Cop, but what shocked me was the 1st GSP vs. Serra fight. I thought coming into the fight that Serra would be tough, but that GSP is on a different level and man, I couldnt believe it lol. But Cote is in Serra's position for this fight with Silva, no one expects Cote to win, he's supposed to get defeated and make it so Anderson can move on a fight other 205'ers and fight Okami and possibly Henderson again. But, unlike GSP at the time of the 1st Serra fight, Anderson is incredibly focused. I just really hope he doesnt take Cote lightly or come in the fight with a bad mindset. The biggest example of coming into a fight with a bad mindset and end up losing because you were so unfocused HAS to be Roan Carneiro vs. Kevin Burns. Coming into the fight, Carneiro probably thought he would blast through Burns because Burns was like a 2 day replacement for Ryo Chonan. Carneiro came in cocky and overconfident and paid a huge price. He was unable to mount that much offense and ultimately lost to Burns by a triangle. A BJJ blue belt catching a BJJ black belt in a triangle is ridiculous. I just hope Anderson doesnt pull a Carneiro in this fight.

now that you mention it it really wouldnt surprise me that silva would take Cote lightly. But then again Silva comes out with a man on a mission. i guess i could see it goin to round two but i dont think he has a chin like irvin. I dunno anymore though now your makin me doubt my prediction JZ no fair!
